Communication

BALL – When you get the ball

OUTLET – Generally used by a ‘free’ player following hearing ‘BALL’ indicating availability to accept a pass

OPPOSING TEAM PLAYER’S NAME / NUMBER – Used by a defensive player to indicate who they are marking.

SHOT’S UP – Only defence can shout this, used when an offensive player is taking a shot.

SWITCH – When two defensive players want to swap who they are marking.

TEAM PLAYER’S NAME – Shout to get their attention i.e. before a pass.

WHILE WE ENCOURAGE COMMUNICATION DURING THE GAME, BE AWARE THAT EXCESSIVE OR MIS-TIMED COMMUNICATION CAN BE DETRIMENTAL. FOR EXAMPLE SHOUTING FOR THE BALL WHEN YOUR TEAM MATE IS ABOUT TO TAKE A SHOT.
